Now that it’s October, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about Halloween costumes for the year. (Truth be told, I have an excuse to think about costumes pretty much all year because Halloween is also my birthday.) I’m also a film fan and had an “Aha!” moment the other day when watching collected clips of the best bike scenes in cinema. Why not combine the two and have a Halloween costume inspired by a classic bicycle movie scene? If you’re going to ride your bike to that Halloween party anyway, make it part of your costume!
And so, I put together a list of the top 10 Hollywood bike scenes worthy of a Halloween costume. This week I’m revealing #10-6, and I’ll post the top 5 next week.
#10 Charlie Chaplin, Bicyclist
Gents, you already have most of this costume in your closet. Pick up a bowler hat and ‘stache, and you’re good to go!
#9 Napoleon Dynamite’s Sweet Jumps
With a curly red wig, nerdy glasses, and thrift store horse t-shirt, you’ll be Dynamite in seconds. Bonus points if you can find puffy boots!
#8 Breaking Away
If you live and breathe for the latest bicycle components, this is the costume for you. Don your favorite bike cap, Cutters T-Shirt, and attempt your best Italian accent.
#7 National Velvet
Not only is this costume just plain girly fun, you get to turn your bicycle into a horse! Go nuts on Etsy to find the right red dress and saddle shoes to channel your inner, youthful Liz Taylor.
#6 Sound of Music: Family Ride
Feeling crafty? Go ahead and make your own jumper out of old curtains. If not, scouring the racks of your favorite vintage store should turn up what you need for the majority of this costume. Perfect if you ride a vintage bike!
